With deep regret and sadness the Board of the IIHA has to announce the death of its long-time member, former Executive Director and Member of the Board, Admiral Dr. Sigurd Hess. He died on 14th June 2018, in Rheinbach, Germany.
Admiral Hess has been with us from the early days of the IIHA, was strongly active in the management and legal issues of the association, served for a number of years as the Executive Director, and later continued to help running the association. He held senior NATO naval positions, and beforehand served in the German Navy (Bundesmarine) for 41 years, including as Captain of the destroyer ‘Moelders’. As a member of the IIHA he always strove to advance the younger generation of intelligence scholars. His last article for the Journal of Intelligence History was accepted for publication sadly two days after his death.
On behalf of the entire IIHA, the Board would like to express its deep mourning and to offer its condolences to Admiral Hess’s family and relatives.
